  • The geographic extent of Miss MacDougall's collecting

The Collection was populated from far and wide. While much of the substance came from the generosity of many local people who gave items from their own homes, there are items from around the world.
The catalogue of Hope's contacts include all across the Islands up to Shetland and Orkney, around the Highlands and Lowlands of Scotland, right down to Hampshire in the south of England.
Contributions travelled further even, from the USA, Denmark, Switzerland and Spain.
Hope, herself, travelled widely to find items for her Collection - she acquired the contents of a number of shops as they were closing down, visited Auctions across the Highlands and was not above delving into dumps or beachcoming for gems. Her travels around the world reaped their rewards including a scythe from the Faroe Islands and flea markets in Holland.
