The Trust was set up on Miss MacDougall's death in Dec 1998
Its aims are to look after The Collection and 'display it for the benefit and education of the people of Lorn and indeed elsewhere'.
Clearly the ultimate aim is to present the Collection in its own museum for everyone to enjoy. The costs of this are enormous, obviously, and, so far, funding for the permanent museum has been hard to obtain.
These are Challenging times - the Future of The Hope MacDougall Collection is still in its infancy and under threat.
The initial priority has been to move the Collection into good storage to ensure its long term conservation and to create a professional quality archive / catalogue of each itme.
Over the past years this has been done, and in such a way as to enable the Collection to remain accessible for outreach and schools projects, and for touring museum displays, where funding can be obtained.
A major aim is to create an "open store" of the archive. This is where the objects are more accessible both to staff and for public visits. There is part of a number of similar musuem stores in Britain and the activity of The Hope MacDougall Collection have already been acknowledged as ground breaking and exciting. To set this up will require significant funding.
